Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in London.

Keely Hodgkinson concluded her two-lap season with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic champion, who secured bronze at the global championships recently, excelled in an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a hamstring injury.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua M. (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely easier for me to go out there and want to give it something," said the 23-year-old.

"The atmosphere out there is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The female-exclusive event packed the stadium in its second year, introducing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was present to present the winners with their tiaras.

Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.

The event also attracted several top athletes, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, won the sprint double.
