In “It’s a Deal”, a look back discloses that fan-favorite character Alastor the Radio Demon was a serial killer in his human life. Being aware he was headed to the underworld, he established communication with the realm beyond beforehand to secure a strong position there. The charismatic leader, who leads Hell’s cannibal community, promised Alastor he would become “the most powerful Sinner in Hell” in exchange for his eternal spirit.

This prompts an important query: How is this character sufficiently strong to elevate Alastor above every other Demonic Sinners?

“The agreement between Rosie and Alastor is the initial building block in a much bigger story that involves so much, leading into season 3,” the creator explains. “Obviously that is a perfect question: How is she so strong? The answer could be many things, but the revelation is in season 3. I'm very excited for fans to witness it.”

It is uncertain the duration the audience will have to remain for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The production companies have approved the third and fourth seasons, but the creator frequently notes that animated production is a slow, lengthy process, and subsequent seasons have no release dates yet. Still, she says holding off on specific information is a crucial aspect of maintaining season 2’s focus in the right places.

“The challenge of any agreement with infernal beings, or narratives that have enigmas, is providing the audience sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that gradually, and letting that be gratifying,” she comments. “So I am quite eager.”

Questions Answered in The Next Season

The creator assures that season 3 will tackle the questions fans have been asking, like why Rosie commanded Alastor to disappear for a seven-year period, which diminished his power in the infernal realm.

“The entire seven-year span, and the pacts these humans are making, and all that — it's feeding into a bigger narrative,” she says.

Meanwhile, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode provides a further look into what the main characters of Demonic Sinners looked like as mortals, following after seeing another character's Victorian-era mortal appearance in episode 2. She explains that a lot of thought went into these character designs.

“The mortal forms of the characters hold great significance,” she notes. “They range from appearing really different from their infernal version to looking almost identical. With the first character, the initial design we see, there was some internal discussion internally between going with a design that symbolizes the character, versus selecting an option that's historically correct. We opted for making something that just seemed like it was him.”

She says the biggest debate over the mortal look of Pentious was his lengthy locks: “We were like, ‘Nobody typically had long hair of that style in Victorian-era London.’ But simultaneously, we think the outline is extremely crucial, and we also just felt he looked good. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We kind of gave the excuse that he's a hermit, so he just let his hair grow out. So there's always a way. As we design the human versions of these characters […] it's such a fun thing to explore and determine. I am looking forward for fans to see more of the appearances of the human versions.”

Fresh installments of Hazbin Hotel season 2 are released on midweek on Prime Video.
