Vinted Users Voice Frustration Over Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online saying Vinted listings now show an altered size classification than originally posted because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Changes
Before the change, the sizing featured one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Necessary Adjustments
A different user, based in Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has emerged as a preferred choice compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: last year, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options following member complaints.
